The Board of Grievances organized, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in cooperation with Southern Methodist University in the United States, a workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on the Governance and Development of Judicial Work." The session was delivered by Professor Martin Kamp, Professor of Law and Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and International Programs at the university's School of Law. The workshop coincided with the Year of Artificial Intelligence and addressed the impact of AI technologies on judicial governance, opportunities for enhancing procedures, and frameworks for regulating their use in judicial processes.
The discussions, held via virtual connection and attended by a number of judicial, technical, and administrative staff of the Board of Grievances, focused on the role of AI in governing and transforming judicial systems, its applications in courts and among judicial decision-makers, and its potential to improve litigation procedures. The workshop also examined mechanisms for regulating AI use, associated risks, and indicators of bias. During his presentation, Professor Kamp commended the level of AI adoption across Saudi Arabia's public sector, particularly within the Board of Grievances, noting his observation of several applications that directly support litigation procedures.
The workshop concluded—held as part of activating the memorandum of understanding between the Board of Grievances and Southern Methodist University—with an in-depth discussion and active engagement from attendees on the impact of AI in advancing judicial work, mechanisms for regulating its use, and ways to ensure its safe application while maintaining procedural integrity and transparency. The Board of Grievances reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging modern technologies in digital litigation services and strengthening governance across workflows, in pursuit of leadership in administrative judiciary.
